How the flooring estimate works

Buy by the box, not the exact square footage. A 10 percent waste allowance covers cuts, mistakes and a few spare planks for future repairs. Complex room shapes, diagonal layouts and long narrow rooms can push waste toward 15 percent. Check the coverage printed on your specific product, since box sizes vary widely.
