How the gravel estimate works

Volume is length times width times depth. Converting volume to weight depends on the stone. Crushed gravel runs roughly 1.4 tons per cubic yard, but pea gravel, road base and washed stone all differ, so treat the weight as an approximation and confirm the density with your supplier. We add 5 percent for spread and compaction and round up.

Moving gravel by hand? A solid contractor wheelbarrow is worth it for anything past a few bags.
